Sesh400 settings

Post by Ron Hogan »

I’ve noticed that the presence and treble settings have a lot of headroom. As you can see my average settings on my live gigs have them on about 8:00 O’clock. I start with them at 7:00 o’clock and tweak from there.

Most Peavey amps we have the highs up around 1:00 o’clock or so. So to my surprise the Sesh can really peel you off the wall if you go up in that territory.

What are you seeing on your settings?

Ron,I'm using Buddy's settings as a baseline, but backing off on the"Treble"and"Presence"...

There's a past thread about his settings on here somewhere....

I seem to be running them at about 12 o'clock most of the time...

What are you using for a power amp?

I've never been able to turn my"Master"up that high-it seems to overdrive the TB-202
that I use for power...

I have a"Straight Ahead"power amp that sounds wonderful-I'm still getting all that together-The Quilter has reverb,so that's what I'm using live right now.

Hope you are well, my friend!

Steve, I've been somewhat curious about the SESH. Like you, I'm using the Quilter 202 with both the 12" and 15" Cabs and they sound fantastic. I also have Mike's p2p 2-12" Bad Dawg. Both of these amps are as good as anything I've ever played through, and these days I only play in my studio ... SO, what would the SESH add to either of these amps?

Dale,

"Bottom end", for one thing...I love the Quilter and have been using one for about 3 years, but I missed the"bottom end"of a Peavey..."Sesh"seems to have enough of that going on to make me happy.

Steve, I’m also using the Quilter and yes, I like the bottom end using the Sesh. I’ve also used the BAM200, but still experimenting with that.

Also, everybody’s hand creates a different tone, so we take that into consideration.

Dale, remember that the Sesh is going to sound different in a live situation versus your practice situation.

Ron,I've got one of those"Elf"bass amps-probably made at the same place...

I'll have to try it with the"Sesh"!

BTW…
The past two live gigs using the Sesh and Quilter tone block, I went to the input, put the toggle in FRFR and set all your tone knobs on 5 as it recommend it. I thought there was a big improvement. Friday I will try the Tom block just going into the power amp of the block itself. Last time I did that, I didn’t like it as much.

Ron,I liked going into the input better too...when you went into the"Return",did you insert a"dummy"plug into the send?

Anybody using this on a pedal board with other FX boxes (besides delay/reverb)?
I've got the Sesh as the first thing the steel goes into, and then into dirt & modulation FX, then delay/reverb, out to amp.

But it occurs to me that if I were using a Session 400 (or any amp), I'd be feeding the pedal board FX into the amp (I don't use FX loops).
So I'm wondering how the Sesh would respond to OD/Distortion pedals before it.

I'll be trying this but I wondered if anyone's been there before me.

Steve, I didn’t use the Dummy plug. I’ll try it out and report back.
