My favorite electric guitar configuration is the Stratocaster with it's 3 single coil pickups and a 5 way selector switch. There is such great versatility in the tone that can be produced.
Has anyone come across a lap steel that has 3 single coils and a 5 way pickup selector?

The only 3-pickup steels I've played were Nationals that sounded very different from a Strat.
You could always take a Strat and add a square neck: http://www.lapdancerguitars.com/news.html. I've seen folks just add a nut riser but if you go to heavy-gauge strings you risk damaging the neck.

i have built a lapdancer type neck and installed it on a strat body. sounded great. i build the headstock differently to reduce any flex.
