Oh Susanna - Weissenborn variations

Post by Andy Volk »

Here's a snapshot of a woodshed work in progress. I was listening to versions of "Oh Susanna" by James Taylor, Cindy Cashdollar and others and decided to give it a go as an arranging exercise; first, as a simple single note melody and then lusher, re-harmonized variations. I put theory aside and went solely with my ear and taste and seeing what the Dmaj7 tuning had to offer. It always amazes me how you can change one string in Open D by just a 1/2 step and the whole character of the tuning opens up to different sounds.

Still working on it, but here's how it stands right now. MIDI audio: https://soundcloud.com/aev/variations-o ... eissenborn
