I may be way off base here, but wonder about those core windings not going to the rollers. I realize thats not an are we play at much but if your rollers are gauged and your wound strings are seated at a different height than if the windings go over the rollers. Things that make me go Hummmmmm

I had written about Custom Gaged Rollers some guitars have in my previous post and deleted it.
The first thing comes to mind is. If the winding is not attached solid some way to the core at both ends, Will the string from the vibration of being played, Unwind the winding, And could have a deadening effect on the string.

I am with John Hyland. Does anyone know what the point is?
It has to be about tone, sustain, longevity, wear and tear on the bridge/fingers and nut rollers, cost, playability, or some combination of these factors. Obvoiusly somebody thinks it’s a good idea for some reason.
Doug, at least you used to be smart. That’s one up on me

I can see how it will be a different tone. Better, well now that is in the ear of the beholder of course.
It looks like a marketing and sales nightmare to satisfy different scale lengths and the shall we say "pickiness" of steel players but I'm sure Mr. Jackson has considered all of that. He has been involved in the sales and manufacture of more pedal steel guitars than anyone else alive today.
