Goodrich trouble

Post by Bryce Van Parys »

I got a 120 Goodrich volume pedal new from Al Briscoe about a year and a half ago. I get intermittent problems were the volume cuts in half if I tap it wide-open, but if I tap it hard a couple times it’ll kick back in to full volume. I have rewrapped the cord several times, and tried different cables and so forth but it’s gotta be something else. It doesn’t have very many miles on it, but I do play a lot The quarter inch connections look solid and don’t crackle, so I’m suspecting the pot. Suggestions on the best one to replace it with or other ideas?

Well, I wrapped the cord yet again, but this time I got the cord twice around the left side of the Allen set screw and it seems to solve the issue. So maybe I wasn’t wrapping it correctly. I’ll report back if it fails again

Check you wiring integrity. If you don't have something touching the case and shorting out at wide open travel, your pot has just probably gone bad. Not unusual. Some last longer than others. It's a crapshoot with pots.

The current replacement recommendation is the Dunlop 470K pot.

Good luck.

I believe the cord needs to be wrapped once or twice around the allen screw, to prevent slippage.

I think I found the issue. When I wraped the cord (on several occasions) I was not going over the top of the bracket holding the pinch down screw, but rather to the left of the bracket. I was getting volume consistency issues, and the pot was slipping back to about half position. I watched the Goodrich video again on youtube, and this time ran the cord over the top of the bracket before the pinch screw and it has been good ever since. Does this sound correct?

Yes, going over the top of the bracket is correct. Congrats on getting it fixed.
