His wife loved him, obviously. We should all be so lucky. RIP Bill...Jack Strayhorn wrote:The photo was taken the night we presented him with a new guitar his wife had me build.
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

I met Bill East back in '99 at The Knoxville Steel Show. I saw him playing that green Emmons LeGrande III and was just knocked out with the color. I couldn't even sleep that night in my hotel room because of it, and told my now ex-wife at the time, I just have to go down to the Emmons room and see at that guitar again. Next day I told Jack Strayhorn that I had to have a new Emmons that same color. Jack told me he had enough stain left from Bill's guitar so he could build me one to look like it. Bill's was a D-10 but I wanted a SD-10. I ordered my new green Emmons right there and gave them the deposit. This baby arrived on my front porch about 16 weeks later right before Labor Day weekend.
