Here is a video from Sundays TSGA monthly meeting. You can hear me tell the story about another steel player telling me I overplayed it and he hated it. The conversation is between David Wright, Casey Martin and myself. Had not played it in a few weeks so there are a couple errors. Danny Sanches on lead guitar, Gene Brown on fiddle, Casey Martin on steel guitar as well, Mark Minton on drums, Ray Keller on bass guitar and Randy Floyd behind me on electric guitar. What a fun afternoon.

I agree. As long as it’s tasteful and well played, I enjoy hearing embellished versions of what were once simply played melodies.Paul King wrote:Thank you Dan and I agree with you. Roy, everyone has their own take on every song. I cannot imagine playing that song over and over and playing the same thing every.
(There are times that people object to someone’s playing merely because they couldn’t play it that way themselves, even if they tried. That’s called “sour grapes”.)

Overplayed? I think not. Wish I could play it half as good.

Always a fine job Paul! You’re right with regards to even the “Pro’s” overplay now and then albeit they’re still great. Trying to cram all the licks you know and some you don’t know ( ) into a simple tune….well, it just takes away from the melody (Thanks Jeff N.) of the song…IMHO anyway. I’m putting my money on Paul King’s playing vs the negative/jealous hater expert…. Soap Box put away…
