What's the best lightweight 12" speaker?
Hi friends & steelers,
I'm thinking of putting a small lightweight speaker cabinet together.
Please tell me what your favorite lightweight 12" speakers and/or speaker cabinets are.
I have a Milkman 'The Amp' 50 that I plan to use with this cabinet.
I play 10 string E-9, a lil bit country & a lil bit rock & roll.
Thanks, Dave

tt12
i really like the travis toy tt-12. i am currently playing one and i have also had the 15” version in another amp. to my ears it is like a warm and sweet jbl sounding speaker without the brittleness.

Speaker
As far as 12 inch, first choice would be Eminence TT-12, second Eminence PF-350 last, 12 in Black Widow!

I use whatever neo 12” that milkman brands. It sounds fine and I am happy with it. I have listened to the Travis Toy speakers and they are also great. Those speakers sound VERY different though. I suggest doing some objective listening before buying anything.
For recording and some gigs I bring my jbl D120’s. They have a thing that works for me.

After failing for years to find any neo speakers that I could warm up to, I have become very happy with the Celestion Copperback 250 neo that came in my (since sold) Quilter Mach 3. I now have one in my Tonemaster Twin to brighten up the relatively dark Jensen Neo, and one in my newish Marsh Melloverb Junior. All a matter of taste, but that's my flavor of the month (year) (hopefully decade).

There is a video on Youtube showing a speaker "shootout" among various 12" units and the clear choice according to Randy Beavers is the Eminence 'Wheelhouse'. However, like Dan, I also own a Marsh 'MelloVerb Jr.' (my preferred amp for most any venue) and my speaker of choice is the WGS 'CT-12CS', brings out the best in that amp to my ears and our sound man regularly compliments me on the tone.
