Steel Guitar at Surfer Joe Festival (Livorno, Italy)

Post by Dave Mudgett »

Steel Guitar at Surfer Joe Festival yesterday. Starts around here - https://youtu.be/20cT0pDWjPk?t=11716 - the steel is featured prominently.

This is one of several annual surf guitar festivals. Going by the 3 legs, looks like an walnut or mahogany S8 Fender Deluxe. Sounds great, I'm gonna have to push my larger surf band to incorporate more steel.

This band is the Manakooras - https://www.facebook.com/themanakooras/. There was a recent thread about their latest album here - https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=391708. And a Vintage Guitar Magazine article about them last fall - https://www.vintageguitar.com/46367/the-manakooras/.

If you're into surf music, this whole festival is being streamed here - https://www.youtube.com/@surferjoeit/streams - and previous days are also archived there.

Dave - thanks for posting the link. I break out a steel guitar occasionally with my surf band but we lean more towards the Blue Hawaiians when that happens. It would be fun to play it on higher energy stuff like the Mankooras do. Always fun to see who pops up at the Surfer Joe Festival. I'd like to see Messer Chups.
Now back to watching Marty Stuart reruns on RFD TV.

It was great to see the live stream, and hear the band live. The Manakooras have become one of my faves to listen to as of late. What a treat. The rest of the festival streams are pretty good too. Lorenzo knows how to put together a great festival.

The SG101 festival at the Golden Sails Hotel in Long Beach, CA this July features The Tikiyaki Orchestra on the first night, Fri, July 28.

Another set by The Manakooras - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyZG70BHrgU

Some very nice steel playing throughout although the camera work may leave you a bit sea sick at times.
