LIMIT - 3 Active Threads Per Upcoming Event

Post by Dave Mudgett »

From time to time, there has been a proliferation of many threads about a single upcoming event. There have been as many as 25-30 threads about some events. This cannot continue. From here on, any threads added after three about a single event will be locked or deleted.

In general, one thread should usually be adequate to announce most events. New posts on that one thread about the event will not only give people any new information needed, but will also bump the thread to the top of the first page of the Events section. And people will know exactly which thread to open to get information about the event.

I realize that for some of the bigger shows, it is occasionally reasonable to have a separate thread or two for information about, for example, motel information or performer schedule information. But from here on, 3 is the limit.

If you are having a sub-event at, for example, one of the larger steel guitar shows - e.g., you are giving a seminar at the show - it is fine to add one separate thread for that event, and that will not count towards the three for the show. But please make the topic of this sub-event clear in the thread title. For example - "XXXX Giving C6 Seminar at the YYYY Steel Guitar Show xx/xx/20xx."

It may seem like adding tons of threads may help to promote the event. However, having lots of threads not only interferes with other members getting visibility for their event(s), but it actually makes it harder to find information about the event in question. If there are 25-30 threads about an event, how is anybody supposed to know which thread to open to find out information? And I'm not exaggerating about 25-30 threads. Please use a little common sense.

As a courtesy, we request that if you have several gigs or other related events coming up, please put them in a single thread if possible. For example, if your band is touring and know you have a bunch of gigs over a relatively short period of time - e.g., less than a month - that is a good candidate for a single thread listing all of them.

Thanks in advance.
