Quilter Labs - Travis Toy 15 (TT-15) Combo

Post by Travis Toy »

Hey everybody! I’m proud to announce that today Quilter Labs and myself are launching the “Travis Toy 15” or “TT-15” combo amplifier. This is the highly anticipated 15” version of the TT-12 combo that launched last year, and it is using my signature Double T-15 speaker from Eminence.

As with any product that has my name on it, you can be sure that I have thoroughly played it, tested it, and put it through all of the real world situations that I encounter on a day to day basis.

This is for all of you 15” speaker guys! Go get it!!!

Congrats on your new TT-15 speaker. I'm a new owner of the Quilter Steelaire amp. My question to you is,
have your ever tried the STEELAIRE prior to your choice of the Tone Blocker 202 combo and if you have what were your Steelaire pros & cons?

Also can you list your amp settings regarding you Quilter Tone Blocker combo.

I'm currently playing a new D-10 MSA Legend and enjoying my new Quilter amp, great combination

I'm obviously not Travis.
My TB202 EQ settings, FullQ, Bass 12 O'clock, Mid and Treble 10 O'clock (two clicks left from 12 O'Clock).

Travis has mentioned also using VINT at times and I too on occasion use it, but for me primarily FullQ,

I'm using GFI with a Lawrence 710 pickup.

I had a Steelaire, much happier with the TT combo.

So, happy as heck to have my new TT-15 delivered. Unpacked it, brought it into the studio, plugged in..

WOW!!!

I'll post later after I have some time on a stage to determine my EQ.

What a magnificent sound!

I used the TT15 combo for the first time a couple of weeks ago. After the gig, the venue owner (a steel guitar player) came up and asked what I was playing through. He was extremely complimentary on the tone. This past Saturday, same venue, same comments. I think he’s gonna pull the trigger one!

I've been bouncing back and forth between my TT-15 and TT-12 for gigs. I use the 12 for small rooms and for shows with sound reinforcement. I use the 15 for larger rooms with no sound reinforcement. I tend to grab the 12 for most gigs because of it's smaller size and light weigh. Now that I'm in my 70's, that's important. :) Love the low tones of a 15" though, and the TT-15 is much lighter than any of the traditional steel guitar amps (Peavey, Webb, Twin Reverb, etc)... so I'll be keeping both of my Quilters.

I don't remember those settings. I've been using similar to what you show almost from the first TB202 I got 3 years ago.
My EQ with a TT12 combo is Bass 12 O'clock, Mid and Treble 2 clicks Left from 12 O'clock and mainly Vint voicing.

This has worked with the D-10 Franklin with Lawrence 710's and with a GFI Ultra D-10 and an Ultra SD-10 both with Lawrence 710's.

So, if it helps, my last settings (outdoor gig) were:
Bass=3:00; Mid=1:00; Treble=5:00.... main difference I see, is I always push the gain setting just under the master volume (like gain=4:00; Master=5:00). This is a hold-over from using the Steelaire... I found using the gain to "push" the master, rounded off some of the exceedingly "clean" solid state sound, and added just a hint of breakup to the hard pick driven notes.... your milage may vary :)

I DO just love this amp!
