Lap Steel Bass??
Has anyone built a lap steel bass? If so, what kind of pickups did you use? I used electric bass pickups and can't get it to sound right.

Bill Hatcher built a lap steel bass, he says he used jazz bass style pickups. Whether it sounds "right" is in the ear of the beholder, Bill's bass sounds great to me. Here is a video of him doing a great Rocco Prestia impersonation on Squib Cakes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s330c5gBx8s

John Paul Jones (Led ex-Zeppelin) plays a bass lap steel made by Hugh Manson. He puts it to very good use. Maybe this will give you some ideas.
