Music Room Set-up for Practice

I am asking for advice on a simple set-up to play back rhythm tracks for "play-along" practice.

Available equipment for playback:

Laptop Computer with: (1) VLC Software and (2) Music files, including Instruction and Rhythm Tracks, (3) powered USB hub.

Guitar Amplifier

Extension speaker, unpowered

What interface do you recommend? I have an Edirol 25 interface that has suddenly quit working. Searching for a simple set-up to get back to practicing.

Very similar but probably much higher quality than your last one the UAD-volt 2 might fit the bill. The scarlett solo 3rd gen would also be a good option and a bit cheaper than the UAD.

You may be better with a stand alone system rather than going through the guitar amp.
Perhaps just use the 1/8 output on the laptop into computer sub and satelite speakers, or (more expensive) into powered studio monitors.

I go the route Jeff suggests: iPad 1/8 output into Aux IN on a pair of inexpensive PreSonus E.3.5 powered speakers. The guitar amp is separate. If you are not recording, I don't think you need the external interface/DAW device. I like the flexibiity of keeping the backing track (or full-on mp3 of a recording) separate. I use the Amazing SloDowner on the iPad to isolate sections, change speeds, change keys, etc.
