I would recommend C6/A7. Pull your second string from C up to C#, drop your fourth string From G down to F# and you have A6. You can tune the lowest string to either A or C (tuning it to C gives you a full C6… AND between that low C string and the C# string next to it, you can use twelfth fret harmonics to help tune strings 2 and 4 back and forth between A6 and C6/A7).

E
C (retune to C# for A6)
A
G (retune to F# for A6)
E
C#
A (or C, depending on how you want the low end to be voiced)

Yeah, that's pretty much what I had in mind in my post, but you did a good job to expand it to include the C6/A7. Nice!

EDIT: Reread the thread, looks like you answered this question back in January,

Having thought about it I decided that the high string would be more useful.

Then I took a left turn and went with A6 with a high E. Same intervals as the C6 but down a step & a half.
So, A C# E F# A C# E?
Are you still digging that tuning?
Thanks! I haven't had time to really explore it due to family & health issues. I hope to soon.
