Ray Pillow RIP

Post by Walter Stettner »

It almost went by unnoted that Ray Pillow passed away a few days ago (March 26) at age 85. He was one of the real Country Singers in the 60s and 70s, I always loved his voice and style.

My condolences and prayers to his loved ones.

RIP, Ray

Did a show in Ruskin Florida with Ray, 12 or so years ago. The show was songs from a new CD that used the Opry staff band for the recording sessions. Lots of Tommy White steel and I had to "try" and do his licks.

His 1966 album "I'll Take The Dog", with Jean Shepard, has classic Buddy Emmons steel throughout.

Ray Pillow was one of my favorite Opry stars. He always played great songs, lots of shuffles, and the Opry staff band always sounded great playing behind him, you could tell that everyone on stage was having fun. I'm sorry to hear that he has passed away and my condolences go out to all of his family and friends. May he RIP.

RIP Ray!!! Great Classic country singer!!! Got to see him in person many years ago in the 70's in a Bar in the small town of Lyle MN. Had a great road band with him. I remember being disappointed because he had no steel player. His son was drumming for him.....the boy put on quite a show standing on his drums while playing etc. Loved seeing him on the Opry also!!! I really miss that REAL COUNTRY!!!!
