Quilter Toneblock 202 & Sarno V8 Octal

Anyone using Brad’s V8 Octal with a Quilter Toneblock 202? If so, would appreciate your experience. Thanks, Carl

I used a V8 with a Toneblock 200, and it was a very good combination.

Not a V8, but my Revelation preamp and Tone Block 202 work well together. I go from preamp out to effects return on the 202. That gives me access to the power amp and the reverb in the 202.

David and Tommy…appreciate your comments. Tommy, I was wondering whether to go straight in on the 202 from the V8 or? I read a comment from Brad about going out of the XLR on the V8 into the amp….will try all suggested configurations to see what my ears like best….

If your V8 has a 1/4 inch output, go from that to the effects return on the 202.

If all you have is XLR output, you might need Brad's advice.

A waste of a great amp if all that's being used is the power amp section.

Agree with you Jack. I would not buy a 202 just for that. I already had one and just tried it to see if it works.

I'm using a V8 into a Toneblock 202 for my travel rig. It allows me to have 2 patched lines to front of house. The "Sig out" on the 202, and the XLR output on the V8. If one goes, they can just flip to the other.

So, if the Quilter has a problem the V8 can be used on its own. Same thing if the V8 has an issue. Very easy to unplug from the input of the V8 and go straight into the Quilter.

Another cool thing you can do with this setup is get two separate EQ's with one speaker/power amp. If you run the V8 into the effects return, you can also plug a guitar, lap steel, etc into the front end of the Quilter and both will work at the same time. I would have guessed that by plugging the V8 into the effects return it would break the signal chain from the Quilter's preamp, but it doesn't.

I'm only doing this because I need a backup that's quickly accessible and I didn't want to buy two of the same thing, just to have it sit there and likely never be used. I'd be totally happy just playing through the Quilter. It's a great amp.

Thanks Brett…sounds like you’ve have the 202 & V8 working to give you great backup with the house system.

My Quilter 202 Toneblock 12” TT Combo is on back order so I’m trying to get ideas/suggestions, etc., as to how to get the best out of both. As of this writing, I will setup as follows: Steel w/705 p/u, to Telonics Vol Ped, to V8, to 202…(Flashback 2 Mini Delay into 202 FX Loop). I believe I read where Brad suggested a steeler use the V8 XLR out

and on to the 202…not sure about this but could have a positive result tone wise??

Carl, you really can't go wrong with either of them. Take some time with the Quilter on it's own though. It took me a little while to dial in a sound I liked. The thing that made the biggest difference was turning the gain knob up enough... try 1 or 2 oclock. It really helps.

I’ve got the V8 and the 202. The V8 sounds great thru the return on the 202, and it’s nice to get the reverb and master volume from the 202. That said, I actually prefer the 202 by itself.
