What kind of strings should I put on this beast?

Lap steels, resonators, multi-neck consoles and acoustic steel guitars

What kind of strings should I put on this beast?

Post by Max W. Thompson »

A friend of mine inherited this steel homemade steel guitar, and brought it to me to try and resurrect.

I need to know what suggested tuning for each neck? I'm thinking an E tuning and a G tuning, but I have no experience on slide with anything but E9 on a Blanton I used to have.

Basically it is two six string necks on a 24 inch scale body.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It does, but the spacing is as wide as a six string guitar, so I figure it was designed to be two separate necks.

Yes. As far as I'm concerned, it is "The Lowrey". The same model as Garth Hudson played with The Band back in the old days.
I was looking for an organ to mess around on, and this one showed up, and I could not resist. Right now my toddler grandson plays on it more than I do, but I get to mess with it once in a while. (I'm more of an acoustic guitar guy now.)

Some day someone will show up that can really play it, and I'll make them take it home with them.
