New Steel Guitar CD - Steel Cut Country!

Post by Dan Kelly »

Hello Everyone!

I just released my first CD. It is called “Steel Cut Country.” The CD is a collection of Traditional Country and Country Rock covers with one original.

It is available on iTunes, Pandora, Spotify and other streamers. Take a listen to the clips and connect to the streaming services here:
https://dankelly1.hearnow.com/steel-cut-country

Or buy the CD here: https://tinyurl.com/Steel-Cut-Country

Or I'll be happy to mail you a CD. Send your address and $14.50 to:
PayPal: dan@dankelly1.com
Check is OK – PM me.

My most heartfelt thanks goes out to Mike Headrick who put the band together, recorded and mixed this CD… plus played multiple instruments on it. Thank You Mike!

Thank you Ross Shafer for a great sounding Sierra PSG!

Thank you, Buck Reid for your inspiration. Thanks to Michael Sullivan for his tablature expertise and advice. Thank you to b0b and everyone on the Steel Guitar Forum for contributing to what I have learned here over the years.

Thank YOU for listening!

$$$ On the way.

Just sent the $$$ PayPal.
If the CD is half as nice as the Sierra photo on the cover I'll be happy.
I really should get a CD/DVD player for my computer so I won't need to drive around town in my car to hear it! Ha ha ha... :D
Thanks Dan.

THANK YOU, Andy!

I hear ya on the CD player comment. It seems CD players are becoming rarer than Zithers!

However, we may see them come back. Indie artists have found out that selling their music on CDs is still the best way to go. An artist earns only $3 to $5 per 1,000 streams on Spotify, (1,000 ain't east to get, either). I am learning more about this end of the music business... and I just can't see how a new Indie artist can even come close to earning a minimum wage!

Thanks again Andy, I really appreciate your support and always appreciate your comments on "The Forum!"

Thanks Dan,
Looking forward to hear your CD. Mike Hendrick has some very good CD's that I've bought and never regretted. I bet he did a good job with you.

Your message is right on because the big publishers and recording companies always take advantage of the very musicians that keep them living high.
I need to get a CD/DVD player anyway so it's no big deal.
They are so cheap now.

It arrived today

Post by Andy DePaule »

Hi Dan,
It arrived today and you really didn't need to send me two of them.
I'll send one to my younger brother(A great guitar player) to help him get relaxed and ready. He is doing an album session with Van Morrison later this week.
Elvin Bishop will also be on a couple of the cuts. That would sure give me the jitters.
I've been trying to get him to try playing steel for years, but he won't go near it.

I'm busy today working on my 1930 Model A Ford so can't get to listen until tonight.
I love that you did Ashoken Farewell, One of my favorites since Lloyd Green did it on one of his albums. I'm sure I will like what you do with it.

Here are some you tube videos of my brother's playing with his Orchestra. Some are from Italy and some from the SF bay area.
The first one, gets really good at about 2:50 minutes in.

This one shows off his guitar playing at his best:

Hi Andy!

Great! Glad you received it! Thank you for listening and for the kind words!

Man, The Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra is SERIOUS! What great music... There is nothing like having A LOT of of great musicians backing up really, really good singers! Man, they are GOOD! Great performances!

That is some really "ice-pick" clean soloing on "Wake Me Up in San Fransisco!"

Thanks for the links! That is a bunch of really good SOUL!

BTW, I checked out your website... I was amazed at the beauty of the MOP inlays you are offering. What a huge variety of really well done inlays. It really inspires me to get out my Dremel Router and do something!

Thanks again, Andy!

Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to express my gratitude for all the support the members of the Steel Guitar Forum have shown. This is one of the only places where this CD has been promoted. So, the physical sales and streaming sales can be attributed primarily to the members here.

THANK YOU!

I have learned a lot making the CD. I have also learned a lot about promoting music as an "Indie." It is a full time job, as an independent artist, to get one's music out into the fray. At the end of the day, actually making money as an indie is tough. Spotify pays $3 to $5 per 1,000 "streams" or plays. Unless one has an established fan base, 1,000 streams is monumental. It takes 15,000 streams before Spotify even allows one to buy advertising. Sure, there are artists with millions of streams on a given song... but they are under contract with one of the big three labels that, by the way, own Spotify! The labels really know everything about promotion and have a big infrastructure in place to support it. It is a long hard climb up the learning curve for an "indie."

All that to say the support I have received from the Forum is more than greatly appreciated. Let me say it again... THANK YOU! A donation to the Forum has been made, as well.
