10 string. And are you thinking of making a C6 pedal steel without the E9 neck? Has that ever been done?

Sho-Bud did make a C6 S10. In the 70's they sold the 6140 which came with 6 pedals centered on the pedal bar. Later versions had the pedals to the left like an E9 psg. I think they shipped with 2 knee levers.

I have a 6140 and Ricky Davis went through it this spring. It plays so well now. Mine has the 6 pedals in the middle and 4 knees.

My first 'pro' steel - a ZB S-10 - was intended to be a C6 guitar. It came with five pedals and one knee-lever.

It's fifty years ago now so I have no recollection what, if anything, the extra pedals did but they set it up as an E9 3+1 for me.

So yes: another case of a guitar straight from the factory as a C6th steel; it was the UK dealer who switched the setup for me.

I often wonder how different my neck knowledge would have progressed had I started out on a 6 string lap steel without pedals and levers, like many of the greats did.
BUT, that said, all that can be done on a 10 string guitar, with the side benefit of being able to grow into it, and already having the pedals and levers and THEN, only having to buy it once.

My morning musings ;-)

I don't use the 1st and 10th strings much and could probably live without them, but would the saving of weight and cost be enough to justify losing them? I doubt it.

10 string.

My single neck C6 guitars are 1) a 1967-68 Emmons S-10 with 6p/4k, and 2) a 1st Generation Maverick, played non-pedal with undercarriage removed.

The 1st Gen Maverick is the best non-pedal single neck console I've ever owned. I've sold two of them right off the bandstand.
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?
