Makalapua

Post by Rick Aiello »

This is the last song I'll post ... I set out to learn 3 tunes that are heavily featured in SpongeBob cartoons ... ones I've heard for 20+ years (I have 6 kids)

Here's Makalapua ... Queen Lili’uokalani wrote the music based on a hymn in 1897.

Well, I sure hope it's not the last one. I really enjoy and appreciate what you're sharing with us. I bet a lot of others do also :)

Great playing Rick. I agree with the other fellas. Very nice tone, but you will have to re-record it later..... ;-)

Thanks guys ...

I have 18 tunes (now) that I practice regularly ... Between the HSGA virtual conventions, old SoundCloud stuff and YouTube ... all my songs are recorded somewhere.

Plus all the other SpongeBob songs are too fast for me 😜

And for my money you still have the best vibrato of anyone going right now. Blows my mind every time. Inspirational stuff.

That's a great old tune, Rick. Nice work. I was working on a similar number of tunes as you, but I found I got stale, so I am continually looking for new material. Thankfully, SGF members keep coming up with stuff that I can rip-off  I find putting stale tunes aside is beneficial, because when I come back to them, I have a fresh perspective.

I'm still using your pot-belly pickup. It's very mellow, and I have found .16 E strings are better than the usual .15s or less, for tone and harmonics.

Thanks for the kind words.

The "Potbelly" pickup is one of my favorite units. I'm asking Santa for a 3D printer and a small welding set up (I'll probably get coal though ) ... ... to start making them again.
