C6th lap steel - Charlie Parker Lick in G

Post by Andy Volk »

Here's a classic Charlie Parker lick in the key of G that's easy to play on C6th lap steel. It's the phrasing that makes it cool. Sax audio: http://sndup.net/cj7p

Thanks for posting this Andy. I was digging the way he resolves it with one of his favorite licks. I phrase it a little differently than what you have written, but basically the notes 3,5,2. I've heard a lot of great Jazz artists using this lick through the years. I figured out what it was using numbers as a way to remember what notes it consisted of and to remind myself to use it more often 'til I had it internalized. It's still a work in progress.

Also a Great Lick for us "Peddlers" as the standard C6th Lap Steel tuning is embedded into our standard ten string C6th tuning.....strings 7 thru 2....C, E, G, A, C, E

'Looking forward to more of your contributions.

Thanks
