Another sad day in the steel guitar community. One of a kind, and as fine a man as he was a steel guitar player. And authority/historian of all things Fender. Not a lot of the old crew left at this point. I'll also say that he had some very encouraging words for me when I was going through a rough patch several years back. RIP Jody, the Knight of Fender Tweed.

So sad to hear this news of a great friend of mine. He was, and is a link in the guitar world, whether it be thru Steel guitar OR Fender guitar. Him and Leo were great friends. He worked with Leo Fender and Fender guitar for years. His mural, was and I reckon, still is on the front of the Fender Guitar Museum in Calif with Leo's. Gonna miss him. Condolences to his family. PRAYERS

Jody was eager not just willing to share his knowledge with everyone interested. He was one of the good guys.

I was sad to hear this. A nice guy, and one of the last links with early Fender and with the Harlin Brothers.

Jody me friend

I will miss Jody. He was a dear friend and trusted me to take his original tapes of the Arthur Godfrey Talent shows and the Hot Club of America tapes and put them on CDs so that they could be mastered for sale.

Sorry to hear about Jody

Post by Loni Specter »

I had dinner with him a few years ago while he visited Granada Hills, Ca. He was a joy to chat with about his exploits and our mutual love of steel guitar. I brought with me a prototype lap steel for him to check out, and some old tuner trays for him to sign! I was like a kid in a candy store, so excited to be in his presence.
R.I.P. to a great man.
There is a picture of us on my web site, somewhere.
