Scheerhorn squareneck guitar

Post by Aaron Balano »

Hi,
I'm looking for a Tim built Scheerhorn L body with f holes (I'm open to other wood types, but the maple and KOA are top of my list). Ideally, I would like to do a trade plus cash (or I can just do cash): I have an Asher lap steel with p90s to trade in great shape and is an excellent guitar. I also have a Scheerhorn weissenborn I might consider trading for the right reso. Thanks.

I had two and sold one, and still regret it.
I’ll be on the lookout for you.

Yeah they are - it’s why they might literally be the only modern squareneck resonator guitars that sell for more as used instruments in comparison to when they were new. I pretty much missed my window of opportunity to acquire a Scheerhorn when the price was still semi doable.

Aaron, no idea if you “do Facebook” but there are a few member groups there where you might have better luck tracking down a Tim-built ‘horn.

Dobroholics has been around for 8-9 years and there are a lot of members.

There is a side group for Dobroholics called Resophonic Sales & Trades.

And a newer group created by Jim McNab which I believe is called the Scheerhorn Guitars Owners Group. Jim is pretty much obsessed with these guitars - he owns a bunch of them. And within that group folks will occasionally state that they have a ‘horn available for sale.

Thanks Mark. I am looking at all of the above. I'm trying to cast a wide net since there are not too many popping up for sale lately.

Still looking, but I'm hoping somebody has one they'd like to trade for something else. I've edited the original post to reflect this.

These things have tended to run in streaks over the years, and in recent times people seem to be hanging on to those Tim-built Scheerhorns.

Never give up hope!

Sooner or later one or more will turn up, but there might be “sticker shock” when you see the asking price.

This is the only Scheerhorn made Scheerhorn guitar I've seen recently.

Yeah, I was going to say that I would expect any Tim built Scheerhorn to be north of $10k.
