An old photo - circa 1980

Post by Doug Beaumier »

A recently discovered photo from about 1980. That’s me with the mop-top hair sitting at the white Emmons D-10. I don’t remember the gig, but it looks like a fair somewhere.

That was a 1978 white D-10 that I purchased new. By 1986 it was worn out, so I had Tommy Cass rebuild it. We changed the mica to black. I played it until about 2004 when I switched to a S-10.

Emmons rebuild

You must have put some massive hours on that guitar to wear it out. Probably why you play so well! I have always liked white steels.

Yes, I played 7 nights a week in house bands from 1980 until '87. That guitar was a workhorse!

Did it sound better in black?

Haha, great photo Doug. At least you had some hair. Nice Emmons too.

Hi Doug, The first time I saw you play, in the early eighties, was at Luca Music in Providence, RI. You had long hair and played the O.B. Special. The Big E was the headliner. Correct me if I am wrong.

That’s right, Manny. I think it was 1981. Buddy’s flight was delayed due to weather, so Scotty asked a couple of local players to fill in. I was one of those guys... too dumb to be scared back then! :)

Doug,
Its funny that the RI Music Store event is being mentioned, you and I were just talking about this last Thursday night at your gig and telling Rosie about Buddy being late.
I will definitely have to dig out the pictures of that day, if I remember correctly you had some big Hair
I may try to get down to Strong Ave tomorrow night to see you guys there.

Yes, that IS a coincidence. Tomorrow night should be interesting... two guitars and pedal steel. No bass or drums. Always an adventure!
