OSGA interview with Jason Stillwell

Post by Larry King »

This is our chance to honor Jason, a prince of a guy, and
a wonderful musician. Like many of the interviews I conducted,
I've known him for several years and yet didn't know very
much about him until now.

I recognize great talent on steel but that's just one facet
of his abilities. Starting at age 6 on a 6 string guitar , at
age 19 he graduated to bass guitar, something he has mastered.
One highlight of his teen age years was playing a show for
Wanda Jackson. A 3 week trip to Nashville changed his focus
and found him with a new love, Pedal Steel Guitar.

At age 19 he bought his first steel, a Sho-Bud single , went
That to a Mullen single , and now plays an Emmons push pull
1970 model that Jason has owned for the last 20 years . This
would be a good time to mention his vocals.....he knocks it
out of the park when he cuts down on a good Ray Price shuffle
and it makes me want to find a partner and scoot a boot. An
absolutely great singer.

How one guy can look so young and be a Grand Pa is beyond
me. Jason was influence by Jay Dee Maness during his Desert
Rose days , John Hughey with Vince , and a regional player,
Scotty Robinson. His father Joe always accompanies Jason on
fiddle . Of all the great things I could say about him, his
commitment to God and family rank number one . Come enjoy
this young player at Saint James Presbyterian , So. Elm St
Jenks Okla during the OSGA Annual Steel Guitar Convention.
It is two weeks away , Jun 24 & 25 .

Prince Jason?

Jason is one fine musician and an all around nice guy. BUT, if he shows up in a purple suit and makes us call him Prince, I may get sick!!!!!

Jason is a fantastic musician on everything he plays. He and I are seeing who get the most grandsons. Jason is a minister and a great guy as well.
