Terry Canida interview

Post by Larry King »

Sometimes a person and their history will find me unprepared
for what I was going to hear . This quiet, unassuming guy
that I'd known casually for several years , was full of
stories that are only revealed within the confines of an
interview.

Terry Canida started playing steel in the middle 60's, first
on lap and later on pedals. Currently he plays a 2010 MSA
Millennium and is accompanied by his sweet wife, Oleda on
vocals. I will stop here and acknowledge her contribution to
our shows. First off, she'll rare back on something like
"Satisfied" and when she finishes, you'll just have to say
"it's been sung". She exudes a spirit on the outside that
reveals to you the presence of something on the inside.

Back to Terry...he's worked dances all over southern Okla
{and prolly some skull orchards} for over 20+ years , however
for the last 23 years he's been involved in Gospel music , both
in churches and in concert venues. During his time in country,
he's been backing pro level performers like Lefty Frizzell,
Claud Grey , Johnny Rodrigues , George Morgan and Nat Stuckey,
a favorite writer of mine. BUT...the cherry on the cake was when
he played with Willie Nelson !!!!!!!!!! This is the level of
talent that the OSGA brings to you.

Among his influences, Terry mentioned Jinny Day , Big E , Smiley
Weaver, and Conrad Durocher aka Rocky Stone , an awesome guitar
player who I've seen both with Connie Smith and Mickey Gilley.
Thank you Terry....we're certainly anticipating your appearance
at Jenks, Ok for the OSGA Convention

b0b notes: Terry Canida will be performing at the OSGA show in Jenk, OK, on June 24, 2022.

Terry and I swapped places in 1984 I think. I don't remember how. I want from Cowboys in McAlester to The W H Corral in Sulphur and Terry went from The W H Corral to Cowboys. Cowboys got the best end of that deal for sure. And we both got to play closer to home.
