Elgie Hill

Post by JERRY THURMOND »

Not many of you will know Elgie how ever he was a very good Steel guitar player, he played for Carl Smith back in the late fifties after being with Carl for a while he chose to come back to Mo an be with his family. He sold me my 1st lap steel in 1954 thus started a lifetime of friendship, Elgie was 89 when he passed away 4-20 22. Just wanted to give Elgie some recognition for all the years he played steel in Sullivan Mo area. He was a good guy an family man.

Elgie would drop by my store from time to time and I always enjoyed his visits. I’m pretty sure he worked in the house band of an opry show located in Steelville, Missouri which was known to have very high quality musicians and guests on stage. I’m very sorry to hear of his passing. Prayers for his family.
