As far as dialing in a sound, I don't think that equipment, per se, has a lot to do with it. It takes most players many years (or decades) to get a good sound or sound like a pro Nashville player, and that's simply because it takes many years to become a good player. You don't just go out and buy a boutique amp and a Franklin or Emmons guitar and automatically sound like Buddy or Paul. Sorry, that's just NOT the way it works.
But, I would say that the Nashville Sound of today is far more defined and inflexible than it used to be. Today, what we hear is a "mostly mid-range" tonality with compression and very little EFX. There's not nearly as much tonal or stylistic variety as we had 50 years ago. I think that's because there are fewer influential players these days, as most artists and groups use the same few studio musicians on their recordings.Buddy Emmons wrote:Over the years I've had hundreds of players sit down at The Blade and play through my amp with my tone settings and they ended up sounding like they did on their own guitars.
