Ashley McBryde steel player

Post by Richard Sinkler »

She has a song called "One Night Standards" that I really like. Does anyone know who her steel player is? I found some info some info saying it was her road band on the record. There's some great playing by both steel and lead guitar IMHO. I don't see band members listed anywhere on the internet. Anyone know?

I've wondered that myself. The credits for the Never Will album don't specifically list a steel player:

Electric Guitars: Matt Helmkamp, Jay Joyce, Ashley McBryde (all credited for playing on that track)

I just spent some time on YouTube watching her videos. No live videos have a steel guitar player, so i imagine it's a studio player. She has some really nice stuff.

I agree, Richard. I like her stuff quite a bit - she's a great singer, and a lot of her lyrics are quite clever. There wasn't any steel on the Girl Going Nowhere album, but it shows up on 3 or 4 tracks on the Never Will album. I wondered right away who the player was, but I still don't know.

I would agree it sounds like Russ Pahl, he gets a tone that has inflections of a Pedabro out of his guitar.
