Shobud pull rod thread size???

Post by Kirk Hamre »

Can anyone tell me what size the threads are on a Sho Bud pull rod? I have a 1977 LDG.

I'm referring to the threaded pull rod that the nylon tuners fasten to at the end of the guitar. Is it coarse or fine thread? I want to order a nut that will fit this size thread. I don't know what diameter my pull rods are. Somewhere I read that the threads are 4-40 or 5-40 in size???

If your going to use the nylon tuners, I believe they are self tapping, so just screw them on.

For 1/8" rods, #5-40 is most common, but some Franklin's and Sierra's used #6-40. For 7/64" rods, use a #4-40. For 3/32" rods also use a #4-40. I've worked on guitars with 1/8" rods where someone has used a #6-32 thread. This is way too coarse, usually chews up the tuner, and makes tuning less sensitive.

Thanks for the help. I finally determined that my Sho Bud horizontal pull rods have a 5-40 thread on them at the nylon tuner end.

George L's sells the nylon tuners in packs of 10. You can find them on their website.
