I currently have the Beard 8 string G6 set on my 8 string, would that be OK to tune up a whole step?

What gauges would anyone suggest for an 8 string A6?

I recommend using a string tension calculator like:

https://stringtensioncalculator.com/

You can adjust scale length, pitch and gauge to see what tension it generates. Keep tension at about 18 pounds.

I keep my 7-string Beard tuned to A6, and I use a lighter (custom) set than their G6. With A on the bottom, I use 49-38-32-28-23-17-14. For a low F# I'd try a 58.

No... I'd get another G6 set and buy a new high string... like a .014, to go with the .016-.060 Beard bronze set. Bump 'em all down one string.

I keep mine tuned to E13, turns heads at the acoustic jams!

Using A6 extensively, my method is to supplement a set of Pearce 3100s with two extras for inside strings: .28 or .30 on string 3 and .30 or .32 on string 4. Never had a problem.

I’ve been using Tod Clinesmith’s recommendation
56 42 34 30 26 22 18 15
This works well for me but I have to buy singles or use 2 sets of guitar strings.
I’m very interested in Guys method.
Are you using a 28 or 30 for your 3rd string A and 30 or 32 for the F#?
I know I could go a little fatter but that seems like a lot?
