Lap steel drawings and measurements

Post by Charlie Hansen »

Is there a website where I can get plans for a lapsteel.
I don't know much but what I know I know very well.
Carter S-10 3X5, Peavey Nashville 112, plus Regal dobro and too many other instruments to mention.
Bluegrass Island CFCY FM 95.1 Charlottetown, PE, Canada, on the web at cfcy.fm.
A Touch Of Texas CIOE FM 97.5 Sackville, NS, Canada,
on the web at cioe975.ca.

Just beware that the first of those two lap steels uses a curved and compensated LP Junior style bridge, which is totally wrong!!!

Per is right, but you can use any style flat bridge as long as the scale length is correct, and you can modify the drawing for just about any scale length. I used this Fender bridge which is adjustable:

Here's a bunch of bridges to look at when contemplating your final design:

Of course you can also easily make your own bridge...

John

Charlie - This is a bridge I used on a Recording King (it came w/o a bridge). It's string through and is working very well. Nicely finished. I paid $10 online, but cannot remember where. It's an import.

That's a nice bridge Brad! Through body is absolutely the best for sustain.
