Do you prefer a seat with a backrest?

I can't imagine a three-hour rehearsal call without the luxury of being able to lean backwards and take a breather!

I don't put any weight on the backrest while I'm actually playing, but I wouldn't go to work without one.

I'm never leaning against the backrest while I'm playing, but like others have said, it's sure great to have that backrest to lean into when you're not playing. Backrest all the way for me and my old arthritic back.

To me a seat with a back rest is the only way to go. Modify it any way needed to make it fit you. Sitting in a house band through show opening, Maybe an open mike section and the back an act and it must be comfortable.

The seat I gig with, I have shortened the legs, The back padding cut thinner for more seat room, Removed the vinyl seat cover and put black Cotton jean material on it. Now I am a happy camper.

I started a thread about this a while back, expressing my doubts, and wondering if the backrest is removable. I bought a used Steelers Choice with a backrest. Great seat. I like it, a lot. No regrets.

I seldom use the backrest here, but it is listed as a Comfort Height. No kitchen sink, but there is a flush lever...

I've got 4 or 5 seats, and by far the most comfortable is the Steelers Choice with backrest.

I don't need one (and I usse a drummer's throne)

But often enough, stage space is so confined that I'm backed up against a wall anyway!

Seat

Post by Jeff Neal »

I have had both types. Sho Bud no back and Steelers Choice with back and a Walker with a back rest. The Walker is the most comfortable seat and the angle of the back rest gives you more room to lean back when you have time but the Sho Bud with no back doesn't bother me either. Steelers choice seats tend to have a more straight up angle. Its really a individual choice.

I've only ever had a Steeler's Choice with a backrest, but I sure do like it. Like many others, I often don't lean against it when playing, but it's nice to be able to lean back against it, especially since I sometimes hunch a bit too much during a song.

The back rest also makes it a great chair for practicing electric bass. Seems to provide nice comfortable support while not encouraging slouching.
