Who's this steeler with Stan Kenton?
A trombone player friend sent me this cool photo, with the caption, “You think pedal steel is annoying listen to those bleep with the mellophones!†Anybody think they know who this steeler is? The Fender might narrow it down.... I hope I can load this photo right.

I would say it is Alvino Rey. And also - is that other guy Tex Ritter?

Hey, Sneaky Pete had nine pedals on an 8 string Fender 400! Rey probably had no knee levers. His technique leaned heavily on strumming blocks of chords.

I sampled as much as I could stand. Has anyone listened to the whole album? Is there any steel anywhere?Earnest Bovine wrote:John Sluszny wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMBtmQL ... vu&index=9

A few muted chords; Alvino might as well not have even been there. Sad, because Alvino was once the top presence as far as pedal steelers go. And up until Robert Randolph, probably the most famous to front his own band.Frank Freniere wrote: I sampled as much as I could stand. Has anyone listened to the whole album? This was a lemon of an idea, though. Kind of like putting Tony Bennett in Bill Monroe's band.

Thanks for that great photo of Alvino with a great interior shot of Capitol.
It might be a steel playing the zither sound at 2:05 ". . . .and the green leaves of summer, are calling me home." There's a xylophone on top of it and tagging the song.
