My friend just got a BL 712 PU 3 wires with no hook up
Instructions.
Please help.

Autry,
My BL XR-16 came with 3 wires also. I was told by Becky at BL that you don't need to use the red wire unless you are going to use a "coil tap". I just coiled the red wire up and connected just the black and white wires. The XR-16 sounds very good in my Carter U12.

Yup the red wire is to tap the coil giving you either a humbucker or single coil. I put an XR-16 into a Mullen I used to have. I wired a spst switch to the red wire and the other side to ground (I used the ground on the jack). I liked the single coil best, but there are those gigs where a single coil buzzes. Switching to humbucker takes care of that problem.
