the name of the school is "Johns Hopkins"...trust me--i know..i guess once you understand that the person who wrote the story is a reporter from My Weekly Reader, everything else falls into place...on the plus side, this probably gives and extra 30 or 40 years...

In my lifetime I have purchased ten six string guitars, one laptop and three pedal steels. Hmm, I wonder what that adds up to.

Study reveals that people who are about to die are less likely to buy new hand-built guitars.

Just follow the money. Some PhD once claimed pet ownership causes us to live longer. Now one of them is saying buying a hand-made guitar has the same effect. Nonsense. Such relationships are correlational, not causal. People who can afford pets and guitars can also afford things that actually do contribute to (that is, cause with some measurable degree of predictability) a longer life: a safer place to live, more nutritious food, and better health care. And as Earnest B pointed out, those with one foot in the grave have little interest in buying a new hand-built guitar. Unless it is a new pedal steel, of course.

my guitars helped me to get through very hard times after I was diagnosed with melanoma cancer... after sleepless night, with crazy thoughts on my mind , anxiety etc... I would go to my music room, and spend time with my guitars , thinking about music, and steel guitars, just spending my time around them, calmed me down , and relaxed me... I don’t know if above article is a bs or not , but my guitars sure did help me to get through some very hard times ...

No question, Damir. The specific article’s point not withstanding, making music is the magic elixir of life, and I believe has untapped mental and physical healing properties.

I guess it's time for me to buy another guitar. I haven't bought one since 2011, when I bought my GFI new. Maybe I need to buy another one.

I have a room full of guitars and I bought everyone of them. That should give me a long life span.

But, I have started excerpting and trying to stay healthy as a precaution regardless.

That started when I began learning what short lives many of the very best steel players have had.

Yes Damir, I was diagnosed with plasmacytoma in May of '20. I bought a lap steel to try something different and it helped me get through radiation therapy. Music is very healing. I've even discovered I enjoy Hawaiian lap steel music to relax. Hope all is well with you Damir. Stay healthy brother!

I have a friend in the States who is an ardent collector. No Steels but he has over 500 guitars and almost that many amps. Also collectable historical paper material.
