Prewar 1937 Gibson EH-150 Lap Steel w/ Early CC Pickup $1300

Post by Lara Dominguez »

Very Nice 1937 Gibson EH-150 Lap Steel with original early Charlie Christian style pickup - $1300. Comes with the original tweed case.

Sunburst with Curly Maple top and back. Serial # 278-17. Some finish and play wear on the back of neck. A few dings here and there, but it is in very good shape for its age. It is in excellent playing and working condition. The binding is in good shape and nothing is loose or rotting. Original large magnet Charlie Christian Pickup. This was the second version of the EH-150. The first version had an un-bound Charlie Christian pickup.  This 2nd model also has both tone and volume controls together on the treble side of the body. Has great Volume output and the controls (1 black, 1 brown) function as they should. Pickups sound so good.

This guitar was lovingly played and not stored. Lots of great tone. It's in incredible shape for an instrument over 80 years old. Asking $1300. Price includes shipping.

Someone started a separate thread to ask if there's an original case. The case is shown in photos 15-20 in the third link.

That is one beautiful EH-150!

Hello. So sorry you must let this go. Dave M. mentioned the case is an orig. I can tell you the added hand rest over the CC p/up is an accessory sold by Gibson in the ‘30’s. (Cost was $2.50.. “hand rest for Hawaiian Guitar” No 503) photo of it pg. 37, the Duchossior book. A picture of a dead-ringer to your lap (but a 7 str., large magnet) appears below, same pg.,with that oblong rest installed. Other covers, factory style, were more of a ‘clamshell’ shape, usually over the bridge. GLWTS. 😃

Hi John, thank you so much for your post! Indeed the hand rest is a feature offered in 1937 for a whopping $2.50. :D

This is a page specific to the 1937 EH-150 Gibson http://www.gibson-prewar.com/gibson-early-1937-eh150/ There were several iterations within the year itself. From a design perspective they were very much still trying to figure it out. Great read on this site.
