Topic: Tone master vs Little Walter |

| Okay I just want to see what you think on this. How does the Fender twin tone master stack up against the 100 watt Little walter with the pf350 speakers. Of course I know the weight factor. What about tone etc...Thank you for your opinions in advance. |

| I have a Tonemaster Twin and several other systems that sounds good but I doubt they match Little Walter. I have listened to some players live and feel the Walter has the edge here. Paul Franklin uses little Walter. Now the price factors are far apart. |

I don’t know about the Little Walter, I’ve always wanted one, it’s a badass amp by reputation.
I have several tube amps that I love, but they have been collecting dust since I bought the Twin Reverb Tone Master.
The reason I like the Tone Master so much is that it is both my practice amp and gigging amp. And since all I’m doing until our local bars open up again (safely) is practicing at home, it is all the better amp for me.
The attenuator switch is the greatest thing for getting clean or overdriven tone that you desire, according to your room size. For a small room, you can set it at 1 watt.
But it will also play loud and powerful enough for big bars gigs and moderate size outdoor gigs.
Others have commented that they don’t like the TM modeled tone as much as a true tube Twin amp. Their ears are better than mine. I am frankly over-joyed with the tone , for bluesy overdrive, or clean headroom pedal steel. And it’s been a great harp amp for me too.
And it’s really light for it’s size and power, which everyone talks about. The function is more important to me than the weight, but when I get back to playing with my friends, the (lack of) weight will be a huge bonus.

I cannot vouch for the Tone Master but I certainly can the Little Walter. Yeah maybe a little pricey, yeah a little heavy for some. Phil doesn’t build them with fx, most folks often use an outboard effects unit anyway. Give him a call and he will answer any questions you may have.

It’s not really a fair comparison, both great at what they do, so it depends how important the features and benefits of each amp are to you.
I own a Tonemaster twin with the reverb software update. It’s a great amp, and a great functional tool for all my needs. I’m happy with it. I’ve heard Paul F. Play through his LW, live, and as you’d expect , it sounds better than my TM..
I’ve yet to hear a top pro play through a TM, and There’s a reason many pros play tube amps.
For me , the convenience of a grab and go no maintenance amp far outweigh the better tone of a LW type head only unit.
I can hear the difference. If my playing and gig/ session work justified it, I might feel differently. |

| I just got a Little Walter with 1 pf 350a and 1 pf 400 speaker and I love it. It probley won't ever leave my basement. It is pricey . |

| Had a Tonemaster Twin for a week. Used it on one gig , and then returned it. It was light and looked like a Twin, but didn't sound like a tube amp. Couldn't dial in a sound that made me happy .I'm back to Silverfaces, no turning back. I split my Twin into two Rick Johnson cabs. Couldn't be happier . I use other Silverfaces, depending on volume requirements. I'm sure the Little Walter sounds as good, or better, then the Silverfaces. Don't mean to disparage those that like their Tonemasters. I just much prefer tube amps. |

I have a Tone Master, and I like it - it sounds really good. The reason I bought it is that I love the sound of Twin Reverbs (at least some of them), but the weight is a total deal breaker for me. The Tone Master sounds really close to a Twin.
I also own a blackfaced Dual Showman Head and an Fyd head (octal tubes), both of which I play (separately) into a 15" Peavey Black Widow. I owned a Little Walter for a short while, but it wasn't for me. There is some kind of oomph or magic in the sound of a tube, especially, to my ears, when it's played clean.
If you don't mind lugging a heavy tube amp around and dealing with tubes and repairs, I would recommend a tube amp. But if you need a light amp that sounds like a Twin, the Tone Master works well.

| Susan I remember once you talked about using an Avalon 747 pre amp in your rack system so I was going to try that. Then I bought the Sarno Revelation and a VHT 2/90/2 and hauled a rack around for a while. Best tubiest sound I've heard. I've got 26 stairs leading down to my car though and realized all that was actually making me think twice about leaving the house. These days I'm on a Kemper but appreciate your endorsement of the Twin TM. So I'll probably try that too. |
