I've built two clones, a 6G16A Showman and a 6G16 Vibroverb and I've seen on original pictures of the chassis of the blue mallorys and yellow atoms look like they're polarized. Is this true? It got me thinking because I'm starting on my next build, a 64 Twin with JBLs, guitar and steel use.
I looked this up before and I forget now. I've never had a problem with them. I do know the electrolytics are polarized, duh. In this picture it has an "o" on these caps. Why?

Possibly to indicate the outer foil.
Lots of info on the interweb about outer foil. |

I don't think it's an issue with modern caps, there used to be a line on the "foil" side. There are "cork sniffing' caps now made that have the markings just like "vintage" caps, but my ears don't know the difference! |

Supposedly make a differece noise wise. Quieter if you have the outer foil towards the anode on a coupling cap or towards ground for cathode bypass caps.
Interesting discussion here

I haven't built an amp since I became aware of this but will try next time _________________ Duesenberg Fairytale

Jeff is correct! It matters The Outer foil has to be on the send side of signal flow to lower the noise level of the amp. This is more than personal opinion its science yo!
Thanks,
