Where do I locate the serial number ?
On what I think is a 1957 T8 Stringmaster.

They do run in roughly chronological order. It's just that Fender's records are long lost.Glenn Wilde wrote:It won't tell you much though, the case and decal might help but sometimes there are dates penciled in under the tuning pans.
Basil Henriques started a thread about the Stringmaster timeline and if everyone posted their serial numbers on guitars with a known neck date, it would make it easier to use serial numbers as another tool to date guitars.
FWIW, I have noticed that every guitar I have seen with a dash preceding the number (such as the ones posted in this thread) have been from 1957. This also applies to Teles and Strats etc. but I have no idea why that would be.

Thanks! It's basically in the same place as the Mk2 - on the plate where the Vol & Tone knobs are.
I have some Mk1 plates (switches) but none for Vol & Tone.
