Reassembling Sho-Bud 6139 changer

Sorry for all these posts about me cleaning my changer but I have 2 more questions...

1. Is Tri-flow ok to use on the changer axle?
2. Should I lubricate each piece separately or when I got the thing all back together?

Gary , when I cleaned the Changer fingers on the recent SHO BUD restore, , I first cleaned each one with solvent, to remove any gunk or as much as possible. Then used a fine wire wheel to clean them up as best as possible. Then checked the movement to be sure the rivets were not too tight and they were moving freely. If they were tight, I gently tapped the backside of the rivet to FREE IT UP some. THEN used a lite weight lube on each finger but not too much.

Regarding the axle, cleaned it first with solvent, then put it on the wire wheel to smooth it out. You may have to gently PEEN the axle edges as well. Then same deal, a lite weight lube at re-assembly.


I've used lite weight lubes, even 3 N 1 oils . Years of service after disassembly and cleaning.

see above, this is probably the 5th or 6th changer I have re-done in the last few years.

Your changer looks good ! Give it all a lite lube and don't look back ! They do not need much.

Heres an Emmons Changer which I had to take apart which was lubed to death. Black Goo all over my right hand. Thus was over 5 years ago, used the exact same cleaning and .lube process as mentioned above.

Ok. Ive got em all cleaned up. . I’m gonna drip a drop or so of Tri-flow on each rivet of the finger and then I’ll lube the axle as I’m reassembling. This is one of those wood wrap around neck 6139 so the comb part comes out with the changer. Thanks again.
