Mullen Guitar

Post by Ronnie Robertson »

Is a Mullen guitar ok to start with if you are just learning to play? Please help. I am going to look at one tomorrow and I think it is a good deal. Thanks for the help.

Mullen are fine guitars. My personal favorite FWIW. Great action and sound.

Since we don't know which model, the condition or build era you are referring to, it's hard to be more specific.

Welcome back to the fold.

Don’t think Mullen actually ever built a “bad” guitar. Even their starters are pro-capable.

Been playing a Mullen guitar since 2009. I bought it new, and have never looked back. Best guitar I've ever owned. You can't go wrong.

Thanks for the response. I bought it today and I love it so far. Where do Iind a scale for the E 9 th. Tuning with and without pedals pushed down so I can put tape on fret board to know where chords are.

Get ahold of ...

Anthology of E9 Pedal Steel guitar
I bought mine from Buddy Charleton when I started out.

There isn't a page in there that doesn't teach you something. Scales from big E and others. Simple tunes that will get you going fast IMHO.

Get some of the Erv Niehaus tabs if you want to learn a lot of chords and how to put them together.

Then go here... https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=329975

Enjoy!

Nice! I think yours is a pre Royal Precision, if you see people talking about a HWP or Herby Wallace model that's also a pre RP. if you have questions there's been lots of threads about them and often the head builder Mike Mantey will give detailed info. Helps if you put "Mullen" in thread title.

Also vid on how to wind 3rd string around tuner on his youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQsZtn ... Fv4_Y5VWzA

Rotated a little:
