I used Newman picks for a while but ended up with National NP2s. If you are following Jeff's right hand method they work equally well.

NP2,,spend time shaping them and they're just as good,,they are available..and wont cost you 50 bucks

www.elderly.com National NP2 or Showcase 41. Both are very similar even if you have to do a little shaping.

They sometimes have these cobalt plated, although they list some of them out of stock at the moment. They also show NP2 coming in stainless.

Might poke around over there. I'm thinking of getting a couple pair of the cobalt when they come back in stock.

I think you can send Bob Perry in Ohio any picks to be cobalt plated, they feel nice and smooth off wound strings, but not much nicer than good chrome plated picks.

I've seen nickel/silver alloy, cobalt plated and stainless steel recently, but I haven't seen any chrome plated finger picks since the long gone days of the BJ's.

Where can you find chrome nowadays?

Warren Yates, Greg Allen, Randall Wyatt and others make really nice chromed picks but they're only marketed to banjoistas.

The only picks I can wear for more than 20 minutes without pain are Sammy Shelor picks. They have a much deeper "pocket" that wraps your fingertip & secures the picks. They also are made of an alloy that reduces the "clicking" noise when you contact or "snap off" a string.

They don't have anything like the ridiculous dunlop "discomfort curve" or weird multiple "octopus grips.". They are just longer /deeper than other picks, are slip resistant and so darned comfortable I forget I have them on! They look like the tip would stick out way too much, but that's just an illusion.

I had them recommended to me for banjo playing - but I found they were even better for Dobro and pedal steel! They are NOT cheap but I'd pay twice the amount...or more. They are THAT different and that much better than any other pick, no matter how you tweak and modify others.. I get them at The Pick Shoppe, but I think some other shops have them.

and FWIW I use a Blue Chip JD Crowe Model thumbpick,
