Texas dance country band

Post by Jean-Sebastien Gauthier »

I have been to Austin last summer and I really liked the music at the White Horse! I loved the fact that almost everybody dance and that is not square dance like we have here but more swing, couple dance!

I was also very impress that each band have a steel player and that the steel player use C6 on about half the songs.

I recognized some Waylon, Bob Wills and Bakersfield country and the sound was very old school but different from what I know.

I wounder if you Texas guys can help me with artist recommendations and maybe how to make a good dance set list.

Thanks!

Jake Hooker, Jody Nix, Billy Mata, Bobby Flores, Justin Trevino, and Dale Watson, for starters!
Lee, from South Texas - Down On The Rio Grande

There are only two options as I see it.
Either I'm right, or there is a sinister conspiracy to conceal the fact that I'm right.

I play there often. I played there Saturday night.
The Austin dancers are a thing like nowhere else I've played in Texas. They are very different and they are very organized. They have a FB group called Austin Honky Tonkers LLC https://austinhonkytonkers.com/?fbclid= ... Vnu00cUNaE
They advertise who is playing where and on any given night they go around to several clubs to dance and mix. Sometimes the majority of them show up at the same club. That's awesome when it happens

Kelly Spinks and Miles of Texas. Worked a bunch with him and he's one of the best.

That’s great Brendan! If y’all are still around on May 29th come and see us if you can at the 11th Street Cowboy Bar in Bandera. If you’ve never been there, it’s a cool place, like an open-air dancehall :)

Jean-Sebastien,

That's the band, "The Golden Roses" I've played with for the past year. We we play at The White Horse every other Friday 8-10 after the dance lessons. Thanks for the compliment. PM me and I'll send you a CD.

I had the privilege of hearing two awesome Texas bands in NC this weekend.

1. Mike and The Moonpies- they had a really good steel player.
2. Charley Crockett- did not have a steeler in the show, but I know he has recorded with steel. Probably the best dressed band on tour right now too.....

Check em out.
