I've checked updates, and searched for new drivers as recommended; no joy.
VU meters work, but no output on built-in speakers and headphones. Any ideas?

Check the sound panel/Output Device (used to be called Default Playback Device). Speakers should be set as default.

That was the gist of what I was finding in sites referring to the problem.
That's OK, Win10 is still the best free operating system this duffer has had.
Seems I've noticed very little traffic in this column since it's been entrenched.
