Info on a lightweight pedal steel guitar

I was at a steel guitar show in Southern Illinois about three years ago and saw a real light weight 10 string pedal steel guitar and it was new and was about $1100. I don't recall the name on this guitar but if anyone knows what I am talking about, please let me know. I have a friend that is interested in graduating from a 6 string 2 floor pedals to a 10 string 3 Floors 4 knees. Can anyone help out?

That sounds to me like a Zum Stage One.. Super light, good player, good sound, $1149..

Personally if I were in that market, I would save up, wait a little longer and get the Zum Encore about $500 more.. Its a pro grade guitar that will not need to be upgraded... bob

Thank you for the info. I researched the ZUM Steels and found that Doug in Missouri is now building the Zumsteels, I gave his phone number and the info you gave to me to my musician friend and told him to call Doug and discuss the two models. The reviews on the Zumsteels is excellent..Gary Carter plays one and he is one of the best pedal steelers.

Gary's Zum and the Stage One & Encore are designed by the the same guy (Bruce), but are not the same. Never-the-less, a Stage One or Encore would be a great guitar. Top notch guitars. I would also save a little more for the Encore though.

Go for the Encore if you can afford it. You will want to upgrade later if you get the Stage One. The Excel steel has an aluminum frame and is also a light weight guitar.

+1 for the Zum Encore.
I have one that I love.
It plays and sounds as good as my Emmons Lashley LeGrande and Derby SD10 guitars.
Doug Earnest is a great guy who stands behind his products.

Your friend may also want to check out Dougâ€™s Stage One volume pedal.
Great unit at a great price.

Richard Sinkler, Gary Carter does in fact own and play an Encore in addition to his pro Zum. He has had it for several years.

Thank you for all the excellent info; I passed it along to my friend and he called me last night to tell me that he has ordered a new Stage One from Doug.

You can't beat the Steelguitarforum; it is a wealth of info and fine people.

One thing to remember: It's up to us to keep Traditional Country Music Alive!
