I think these picks are worth whatever amount, because I think they are that good.

Jeff stopped making the picks with the BJ name, because he said he could not find anyone that wanted to do the chrome plating for small orders. And finger picks were very tedious to plate. So, when he stopped the chroming, he changed the name to JF (and also because he and Buddy were not partners any longer). There were a few of the unplated with the BJ name, but not many.

I am still doing a major cleaning out and may run across some more of these. I just don't know. At one time, Jeff had me set up as a dealer and I included a set if someone ordered a full set of George L's cables. But I had to stop that, because they got too expensive in the end.

It is sad that Jeffran cannot get these anymore. I suspect for the same reason our favorite steel mfg could not get parts. The almighty dollar.

I don't see why someone (younger than me) does not have these made with a different name. I doubt there is a patent. But I also doubt there would be a profit. Just how many pair of these do you think you could sell?
I imagine that you would have to order several thousand pair to have these made for you. Even in CHINA.

Thats what makes play steel so fun these days. I dont know why more people arent taking it up,,,Picks 50 bucks a pair,,and 10,000 dollar guitars.

O.K. My curiosity is getting the best of me. I am not familiar with the "Jeffran" diamond finger picks. So what is the big deal? What is so special about these picks that some would pay $50 a pair for them? Just curious...enquiry minds want to know! A stupid question deserves an intelligent answer!

IMHO. Simply the best and most comfortable pick ever made.
And as with any quality vintage gear, a shortage of product makes them more valuable.

Actually for a pick that will last year's and years, they are pretty cheap. I've seen them go for much higher prices.

Don't know about vintage. When I started back playing about 5 years ago,,I bought a few pair from Fran. Around 10 bucks or so a set,,and I gave one pair to Scott McCree . If I'd just known

I don't see ANYTHING special about the Jeffran picks.
Certainly nothing special enough to pay that kind of money.
I'll bet Buddy never used Jeffran picks.
Please let me know if he did.

Hereâ€™s my dumb question, how do you bend the part that goes around your finger with out them creasing in the point of the diamonds or are they supposed to do that?

Buddy did indeed use Jeff's picks. Originally they were called BJ instead of JF's. The first ones were chrome. Don't know how long he used them for, but I was at Jeff's school for a weekend C6th seminar by Buddy and the picks had just come in the day before. They sold a lot of picks that weekend. He probably used them for as long as his association with Jeff lasted, hench the change from BJ to JF.

I heard the story that if Jeff caught anyone using picks other than his, he would take them off and stomp them on the floor.

I may be wrong (and am quite often), but I think they were designed to crease at the diamonds. I think that is what I like. Because it really makes the picks stay in place on my fingers.

Here is how they look new and there is a definite crease.

I have had my JF picks for many years and they look like the above and I think the creases at the diamonds are why they stay on so good. I would never give up mine!!

Thanks Bill, thatâ€™s about what I had concluded. Iâ€™ve had mine for a long time, they are however worn on the picking end. I always figured theyâ€™d be like my pocket knife & Iâ€™d lose them before they wore out. Never fear, I have extras locked away. I like the Showcase 41 picks perty good too.

Last time I saw Fran Newman at the Dallas show a few years back, I bought a bunch of the JF picks off her - so glad I did

When I'm gone my sons will make a killing with the left overs hehe !!!

Iâ€™ve got both the BF & JF versions of Newman picks. Theyâ€™re very nice and I use them all the time. I also think the old Nationals are really good.

As for the the story that Jeff would stomp on any non-Newman picks he caught students playing, I think he did that with Dunlopâ€™s because of their flanges.
