RIP Bernie Gonyea

Post by John DeBoalt »

Long time Forum member Bernie Gonyea went to be with the Lord last week. Bernie played steel in Norther New York with various groups for many years. After the passing of his wife Margaret, Bernie lived with his family in the Houston Texas area. A high point in his steel guitar life in recent years was his trip to the Dallas Show. He loved meeting and talking with other players, and made a lot of friends in the country music community.

Sorry to hear this, John. I remember Bernie rode down to the steel guitar show in Norwalk with us one year. He was a nice gentleman and I enjoyed spending a weekend with him.
He and I emailed several times after that. My sympathy to his family members.

Bernie and I became friends through the Forum just before his dear wife, Margaret passed away. It was a tough time for him. He was joyful again when he went to stay with his daughter, Laurie. Bernie was really excited to go to the Dallas show in 2017, and I was so happy to meet him and Laurie when they stopped by our booth! Here's one of the pictures we snapped over the weekend!

My sincere condolences to Laurie, family and friends.
May Bernie rest in peace.

My sincere condolences for Bernie's family. I never met Bernie but we tried to connect several times when he was up my way. He went to the Post Office in Constable to find out where I lived but our paths never crossed. Someday Bernie it will happen, good Lord willing.
