New DIY S6 Console GeorgeBoards Opinions Needed

Post by George Piburn »

Hello from GeorgeBoards Steel Guitars.

The Question at hand is :
Do you think people would want these enough for GeorgeBoards to invest into making these for sale as a Kit more or Less?

We have focused on DIY Parts for lap steel guitar for several years.
I have a New Product we can produce for sale, photos of our 1st proto type to follow.

This is a S6 Console at Compact Length. A Modern version of our design now in a Single 6 String Console.
Designed for Compact Length , total 30 3/4" Scale Length 22.5" (can be 23).
Poplar Wood Solid Plank 1.65" thickness.

I went with a Humbucker style pickup pocket , so you can install pretty much any HB shape.
With a cover plate we can make hanging pickups drop right in too.

Here are the photos , I spent an afternoon drilling tuner holes and mounting the hardware.

price range

Post by George Piburn »

I have a wide range of possibilities.

Body blank mill cut only no tuner holes or string throughs no output hole.

The compact body in Poplar Wood with a fretboard , under 100 usd including shipping.

I am producing the Brass Nut and Bridge sets too - same thing the less I do labor wise , the lower the price point.

Top looks a lot like the top of my keyless guitars, same basic shape as the Fender Deluxe (I think?). I love that fretboard!!!!

answers to questions

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Jack, I would sell this one if you want it , to make you a new one , I require a deposit or full payment.

Sonny , it is the same as all of my 8 string sonsles, just pared down to the 6 head , and a little shorter on the body.

I have this design in 8 string head in a longer 22.5 longer yet in 24.5 and can adjust for longer yet if some one might want to go with those palm pedal things or perhaps a 25-6 scale.
Alumitone pickup pockets -- a lot of variety.

Jimmie , this one is a 1.75 plank planed down on our Helix to 1.65" thickness.

Albuquerque is not a great place for hardwood, there are stores but everything here gets trucked in and prices for wholesale are above other more abundant states. We do have nice Mahogany, Spanish Cedar , Walnut and other species all in 8/4 sawmill cut raw thicknesses. The Helix planer gives a nearly glass finish before we place the material on the Shopbot.

Our Bot is a 48X96 with vacuum hold down.

My personal issue is sanding and spraying lacquer, I've retired from that aspect of building, and have been going the parts direction for several years now.

This thread is to determine if it is feasible to make body blanks.

Most likely the body blanks will sell good. I think a Bridge and Nut with them would make them sell better. Just my thoughts. Great looking design.

Especially if you offered the WIDER spacing (60mm) bridges. (Like the old Gibsons)

Bridges

Post by George Piburn »

My Open E-D 6 string 3D printed Bridge is wider than 60 mm set for .390 spacing pre notched for heavy gauge strings,
Works nicely for P90's and many humbucker - single coils.

My C6-A6 3D printed are .375 spacing on the bridge fitting numerous steel guitar specialty pickups.

I can include these in a Kit so to speak with a birch ply laser etched fretboard for under a 100.00 dollars made of poplar wood.

For DIY Builders that want the lowest price I also have raw brass angle bar.
Make your own Nut and Bridge with a file and my included visual spacing guide to help you line up the little file cuts.

Maybe this can be an up grade item?
