Texas Guitarist Rick Crow.

Post by Herb Steiner »

IMPORTANT NOTE: This post is NOT about Oklahoma steel player Rick Crow, who is still very much alive.

Rather, it is about the passing of my close friend, musical colleague, and perhaps the most under-recognized guitarist I've ever had the pleasure of sitting next to onstage, RICK CROW. We traveled many thousands of miles together as part of Alvin Crow and the Pleasant Valley Boys, from Soap Creek Saloon and the Broken Spoke to New York's Lone Star Cafe and Carnegie Hall and back.

Not only a wonderful musician, but a skilled woodworker, and a man of intellectual curiosity who could expound on any number of fascinating subjects that would drive this listener to seek more information on topics that would surprise and enlighten.

I know his troubled earthly body is no longer with us, but his spiritual body is in another wonderful place and he's once more making music with Roger Crabtree, DK Little, Jimmy Day, Dale Dennis, Don Bacoch, Joe Gracey, Pete Mitchell; all PVBs no longer with us.

In two days I will once again be onstage with Alvin and the band, playing New Year's Eve at the Broken Spoke. And I will privately dedicate every note I play to the memory of my pal.
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

I wondered how he was doing ...this is awful news . I roomed with Rick all the time I played with Alvin . He certainly could spot the best Mex restaurants. Mr. 1/8 note ! I am so sorry . JF
